Infant phototherapy radiant warmers are designed to treat neonatal jaundice, a common condition in neonates that results in yellowing of the skin and eyes. This condition derives from excess bilirubin in the bloodstream, and if left untreated, can result in permanent brain damage or even death. Using narrow-band light in the blue spectrum (450-470nm), these warmers break down bilirubin into components that the newborn’s body can safely expel.
Ensuring that radiant warmers are operating at peak performance is crucial to the effectiveness of treatment. Medical staff must be familiar with all functions of the device, including setting the light intensity, adjusting the treatment area, and monitoring the duration of therapy.
